Questions you may have about living in our Special Care Home: Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place Who owns and operates Riverbend Residence? Local Miramichiers, Colin and Sara Williston, own and operate Riverbend Residence@ Normas Place. Colin has his degree in Business from Dalhousie University and is a proprietor for over 25 years and Sara is a Registered Nurse of over 25 years When did Riverbend Residence @ Normas Place open? We opened May 1st, 2020 Where did Riverbend Residence get its name? We wished to incorporate our beautiful river system while commemorating Colin’s Mother, Norma. Each resident room is named after a tributary river which feeds into the Great Miramichi River Where are you located? We are centrally located at 158 Wellington Street, Downtown Chatham, Miramichi, NB What level of care do you offer at Riverbend Residence? We specialize in Level 1 and Level 2 adult care. We help with assistance in personal hygiene, medication administration, and activities of daily living. Who pays for what? – Social Development carries out a financial assessment which will determine the amount that you will pay Riverbend Residence for your stay and what Social Development will contribute. Depending on your income amount, a combination of your income and a subsidized amount provided by Social Development will cover the cost of rent at Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place. Once again, this is dependent on your individual income. What is included in the rent at Riverbend? Riverbend provides you a comfortable single room equipped with furnishings, home made nutritious meals, snacks, entertainment, heat, lights, wifi, and 24 hour professional personal care. Do I receive any personal money to do with as I wish? – Each month, everyone will receive a comfort and clothing allowance as per Social Development. This allowance helps cover the costs of your medications and personal items you may require. What is in each room? In each room, there is a single bed, bed linens including a duvet, individual sink, a chest of drawers, a bedside table and lamp, an armoire, a chair, a television, and a telephone. (cable service and personal phone line is provided at a rate of $50/mth) Can couples live together? - Riverbend Residence will do their best to accommodate the request to have side-by-side rooms however; there are no double rooms in our home. Does Riverbend make and take me to any medical appointments? We ask that you and your family maintain your medical management with respect to doctor’s appointments, and any other healthcare appointments. In the event that your family is not able to assist, we can help make arrangements with you to meet those needs. Are there items I am not allowed to bring? – You are not permitted to have any appliance with an element in your rooms (i.e coffee maker, toaster, kettle etc.). Also, anything with an open flame is not permitted as per fire regulations and the safety to our home. Are pets allowed? Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place welcomes visits from pets with permission from the operator. What is your smoking policy? – Smoking is not permitted in or around Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place within 9 meters of an entrance; however, there is a designated smoking area on the grounds of our home. How many residents does your home accommodate? We can accommodate 20 residents with individualized care needs at Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place. What is the meal service like? – We take pride in saying that each day there are 3 home cooked meals served along with snacks in the afternoon and evening if desired by the residents. Meals are served at approximately: 8am, 12pm, and 4:30pm with the largest meal of the day being lunchtime. Are families welcome to visit? – Families and friends are always encouraged and certainly welcome. Are there specific visiting hours? There are no designated visiting hours at Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place. Am I allowed to give gifts to employees? – Riverbend Residence @ Norma’s Place kindly asks that the public and residents do not give gifts of significant monetary value to employees. Small gifts, however, of insignificant monetary value are permitted, for example cookies that can be enjoyed by all staff. Do I bring my medications? Upon arrival, you are asked to bring all of you medications. We will help you manage the administration of your medications as per your family practitioner Are there social activities at Riverbend Residence? We have had several different social activities at Riverbend including- Movie nights, music entertainers, crafts, weekly bingo, daily card games, campfire outings, washer toss, etc… Is alcohol or recreational drugs permitted at Riverbend? We do not permit the use of alcohol or recreational drugs in our home unless directed and monitored by their primary heath care provider. Can I leave Riverbend to visit friends and family? What about overnight stays? We encourage you to maintain and foster personal and/or family relationships, which includes your family and friends visiting you in your home and you visiting them in theirs.
